TLD Audio Visual Designer
Location: Richmond, BC
Job Type: Full Time
The responsibility of this role is to be a lead senior designer for our commercial projects. This includes providing support to the sales team and our AV team to design, price, and develop solutions for our clients. This role requires a thorough understanding of AV design components to gather customer requirements and design solutions. You will interface with clients to determine their needs and provide solutions, ensuring satisfaction to the client, the deliverability of the solution and the profitability of that design. The secondary function of this role is to support programming in-house when possible and to guide TLD in becoming more capable in this area of design implementation.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Prepare detailed designs for implementing or upgrading complex systems.
- Deliver designs on time, within the project budget, and maintain high quality.
- Produce and provide documentation for Statements of Work (SOW), design submittals, project proposals, and project design updates.
- Support TLD Account Managers and Management in presales activities.
- Provide research and input for project proposals and opportunities.
- Maintain well-organized client files, technical journals, and other job-related reports and communications, including weekly updates and conferences, using customer relationship management tools.
- Consult with the service team and contractors to ensure efficient and accurate deployment of designs.
- Conduct regular on-site quality checks of designs being implemented.
- Support the service team and contractors to ensure correct installation and deployment of designs.
- Coordinate with the sales, services, and operational divisions of TLD to ensure timely delivery of technical support and services to TLD clients.
- Track activities accurately and promptly using TLD's tools and procedures.
- Attend and participate in seminars, trade shows, and other educational opportunities as required TLD.
- Be available for out-of-town travel to meet or provide support and services to clients.
- Work consistently to improve TLD’s relationship with clients, including joint and in-person meetings with Account Managers and Systems Engineers.
- Participate in vendor training as required.
- Maintain company ticketing and project update tools promptly.
- Actively participate in ways to improve AV projects and implementations with the goals of client satisfaction and business profitability.
The successful candidate should possess the following:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong AV design capabilities and able to design a wide range of AV solutions.
- Meticulous in designing, integrating, deploying, and testing systems.
- Simplifies and breaks down complex problems into practical solutions.
- Strong document management skills for scope of work, proposals, and design/programming files.
- Effectively prioritizes work and manages multiple design projects concurrently.
- Adapts easily to change.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Works quickly and accurately under pressure.
- Collaborates effectively with all levels of staff internally and externally.
- Supports proposal development with a focus on resource utilization, manufacturer products, and project costs to maximize profitability.
- Communicates on both technical and business levels.
- Works independently with little direction and effectively as a team member on larger projects.
- Brings solutions to problems rather than just raising issues.
Education & Knowledge
- Completion of a bachelor level degree program in Engineering, Science or Applied Science (Computing) or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- 5+ years of experience working in the AV channel in a similar capacity. Experience in design, deployment, and pre-sales are desirable.
- Understands areas of AV infrastructure and application deployment. These include but are not limited to:
- Design skills with products TLD sells and supports.
- Knowledge and experience implementing current AV solutions TLD sells.
- Knowledge and experience integrating AV systems into client’s network.
- Programming certifications
- Security concepts experience
- Creating drawings using current design programs such as Visio or AutoCAD
- History with programming, programming designs and deployments
- Foundational and core system certifications in Crestron/Extron and other AV industry standard programming and technologies.
- Understanding of audio fundamentals. Capable of setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of DSP. Capable of configuration and setup of various AV programming tools enough to understand and provide some support, direction of programming overall.
- Must have demonstrated technical leadership and organizational abilities.
